Middle school student Owen Cross is a little nerdy, but for reasons still not fully understood, when he is overwhelmed by reality he transitions himself and the people in his mental proximity to an alternate universe.

Young Owen Cross is walking home from school when he is ambushed by a couple kids from his school. In vain he tries to defend himself, but he isn't strong enough. He hits his head on a door hinge and is knocked unconscious. The kids are chased away by a teacher and he is taken to the hospital. As of that day, Owen has had "blackouts." whenever he is unexpectedly hit or hurt in any way, the people in his mind are sucked into an alternate reality with him. However, only the people most in his mind remember. Due to the beating, Owen is transferred to a new school. Eventually he meets James and Wendy, who both insist on being his friend. He reluctantly agrees. Enigma follows the adventures of Owen, Wendy, and James whose lives just got complicated.—Jarod Bainbridge
