Ann-Mari is a foster girl in a Småland rectory, where she in spite of stiff discipline tries to makes pranks and mischief of all kinds, preferably to with the little Rudel from Smestorp. Together they make an unauthorized railroad journey to the Värnamo market and give Niklas in Backesta a beating for striking a blind horse.
