The dramatic life of May Aubert. She grew up in Kristiania with an English father and a German mother, both of Jewish origin. While the Nazis took power in Germany, she went to Berlin as a hatter and delivered hats to the great stars of the time such as Marlene Dietrich and Elisabeth Bergner. She had her own hat salon in Oslo when the German invasion forced her to flee to Sweden and then as a money smuggler to Canada via Moscow and Japan. Here, and later in England, she made an important and courageous effort as a telephone operator. When the war ended, she returned to Norway and established herself. May Aubert received the King's Medal of Merit in 1999.—OJT
