Havana, Cuba-1890, A beautiful young woman from the Lukumi Community, Ifemorena, is set by her grandmother, Esmeralda, to travel to Africa to marry a King Of Yorubas. But life's challenges force her to face her family's struggles in Cuba.

Havana, Cuba- 1890. Set in the years of Spanish rule, Ifemorena, a young woman from a family of flamenco dancers lives in harmony with the Lukumi community. And yet her family struggles for equality are apparent in her brother's relationship with a priest of the Catholic church and her cousin Paco's lynching. When Ifemorena's Grandma Esmeralda hears that an Oba, a King of the Yorubas, is looking to marry a wife from the new Brazilian community, she feels that her grand-daughter, Ifemorena, a beautiful young Afro-Cuban woman, fits the bill. She sends her to Africa to try her luck. All is well until the challenges of life return with her life in the new world she now claims as her own.—Omonike Akinyemi
