The story of 12 year old, Toumai, his younger brother Ranjit, and their great friend the elephant Kala Nag.

Two children, Toumai and Ranjit are orphaned, living in a wildlife sanctuary in the jungle of Sri Lanka. Their father, a mahout, had instilled into the boys, the love of animals. Toumai is constantly confronted with the problems posed by the relationship between animals in the jungle and humans.—Paul Gerard Kennedy
