Synopsis

Lu Shin is a young Chinese man that arrives in South America with his family in the late 19th century, tricked by a false work contract that turns out to be a form of slavery, toiling in the guano mines with thousands of other Chinese citizens. Separated from his family, he meets young Yu Mei, and they fall in love. Lu Shin survives through his martial arts and his intelligence, earning his freedom, and exchanging it for hers against her will. When he is finally released, he can't find her. Three years later, war breaks between Chile and Peru. When Commander Patricio Lynch invades Peru, he liberates hundreds of Chinese slaves from the guano farms and the sugar haciendas. The freed Chinese, amid a war that isn't theirs, don't know where to go, and follow Lynch. When the Chilean forces arrive at the town where Lu Shin lives, he reunites with his brother, who is among the liberated Chinese, and meets his wife, who is no other than Yu Mei. Lynch hires Lu Shin as a guide, and he will become translator, friend and confidante. To forget this impossible love, Lu Shin organizes a Chinese battalion that, under his command, will change the course of history. Lu Shin, the "Warrior of the Celestial Empire", and Lynch, dubbed "Red Prince" by the Chinese, share a journey into the heart of war, forced to make decisions that involve sacrifice, loss and lives lost. Lu Shin and his battalion are key in the conquest of Lima, where he saves his sister from the great massacre of the Chinese, but not his father, who on his deathbed reveals a tragic secret to Lu Shin: it was Lynch who killed his grandparents in Canton, during the Opium Wars, when he was a cadet in the Royal British Navy. Tradition and honor demand that Lu Shin revenge this offense and kill Lynch, but he's not only his great friend but also the liberator of his people. Will he be able to fulfill his destiny?
