The main axis of the story is Manuel Lara, who returns to the country after spending seven years in Costa Rica and he does so under the name of Esteban Saldívar being a fugitive from justice for being accused of having killed Juliana Alcázar, the woman he loves, with the intention of proving his innocence and finding the true culprit.
