Ramos Arizpe was a witness to the decline of the Spanish monarchy and the change in status that brought Mexico from a colony to independence. He was a representative of Provinces of the East and West in the Courts of Cadiz in 1811 and was jailed in Spain for his liberal ideas. With independence recently consolidated, he was one of the principal writers of the Constitution of 1824. The influence his ideas had on the course of the turbulent history of the nineteenth century was of capital importance for the formation of Mexico as a nation.—Clío TV
