One of the greatest explorers of all time, was the Danish commander, cartographer and explorer, Vitus Bering, who enrolled with the rapidly expanding Russian navy of Tsar Peter the Great. In 1725 he and a group of explorers headed east through Russia, to find out whether Russia and America was connected by land. This eventually ended up to be two harsh journeys over land and on water. The latter, which ended in the death of Bering. This documentary travels in the footsteps of Vitus Bering and his crew.—Alex Kühne
