A group of young geologists head to southern Poland to search for crude oil resources.

A young, impetuous geologist named Andrzej is convinced he will find needed oil in the hole he is drilling. But as time goes by, there is an interference from the home office, and he runs into problems with bureaucracy. He realizes he is just doing his work and that others do not share his zeal.
