A chronicle of the life of Bertrand du Guesclin, grand officer of the French army in the 14th century.

Born into a modest family of Breton country gentlemen, Bertrand du Gusclin gets noticed as of his tender years on account of his unusual energy. Once his restless years are over, Bertrand shows himself as a great warlord. In Brittany, he fights against the English, who take him prisoner at the Battle of Auray. The women of France decide to work to pay his ransom. After being released, Du Guesclin goes to Spain, where he defeats the troops of the King of Navarre. Appointed Constable of France, he wages war unceasingly to rid France of the English occupiers. He dies one evening following his last victory outside Châteauneuf-de-Randon.—Guy Bellinger
