Shankar (Kishore Kumar) is employed in army and is visiting his village on leave. He is informed that he has lost his wife and father in an accidental fire. His child, Ramu, is unable to talk. Shankar sets off to city to get Ramu treated. Instead, he ends up in Meena's (Supriya Choudhury) house after a quarrel with Thakur leaves him wounded on the road. Meena begins to have feelings toward Shankar and Ramu. Thakur, on the other hand, has plans to get Meera married to his son. The only roadblocks for him are now Shankar and his son Ramu.—Kailash

After watching his mother and grand-father getting burned in an accidental fire, young Ramu loses his voice and anxiously awaits the return of his army officer father, Shankar. When the later does return, he is devastated to learn of the multiple tragedies and decides to take Ramu to the city to cure him. Enroute there by foot, he gets into a physical altercation with Thakur and his two sons, gets injured and passes out. Ramu seeks the help from a passing woman, Meera, who assists Shankar to get medical treatment as well as undertakes to look after the duo until Shankar gets better. This does not auger well with Thakur, who hopes to wed his son, Jagga, with Meera, and hires a bandit, Vikram, to kill Shankar. The plans is foiled by Ramu, who gets injured, but Shankar survives. He then leaves Meera and goes to Bombay to try and get Ramu cured - little knowing the shocks and surprises that await them there.—rAjOo ([email protected])
