Dis-caract introduces us to Natalie, a struggling visual artist who often works sleeplessly and in isolation from reality on her own artistic practice. After a series of tireless nights concentrating on her artwork Natalie (English, Heather (II)) is visited by an ethereal character who steals one of her elegant watercolours to help bridge the gap to her subconscious (Johnston, Lucinda (II)). Whisked into the surreal and idealized art studio of her wildest dreams, Natalie recklessly visits her inner subjectivity and the eccentric happenings that are continually presented to her there. With an air of disbelief culled from her observations of the bizarre performances and idiosyncratic discussions occurring in the studio, our main character sensitively navigates the slippery realm of her inner domain with tactile intuition. The studio housed within Natalie's mind is humble even in its eccentric design, yielding full sheets of sketching pad paper strewn on all the walls, piles of sand covering the floor and remnants of half-finished sculptures littered throughout - we get the idea that this subconscious universe is truly a work in progress.
