One day in the small town of Dill, California finds Runner Dell trying to break up with his girlfriend Evelyn. When he confronts her at the diner where she works, a phone call from a friend alerts him that Evelyn is instead expecting a marriage proposal. A day of seeking life advice from his friends takes a turn when Runner's ex comes to town to entice him back, and Evelyn makes a play for best friend Shane. Runner's search leads him to seek out his estranged father for advice who lives in an abandoned bus. The long day comes to a climactic finish as Runner races against time to make it to the local playhouse, which is performing the town play "American Dill." Dill, California is a dry comedy about a one-day struggle in the life of an average guy, Runner Dell. As the film begins, we find Runner just about to break up with his longtime girlfriend, Evelyn. After a failed attempt to break things off at Evelyn's diner, Runner finds out from his best friend Shane that Evelyn is actualy expecting him to propose that evening. He spends the day seeking out advice from his friends, his grandfather, his brother, even his estranged father with whom he hasn't spoken to in years. The town meanwhile is getting ready for a local play about the town and their history, "American Dill." A visit from an ex-girlfriend stirs things up, as do the many colorful characters that are all part of the flavor of this town. With responsibility and real life looming, will Runner face up to his choice, or keep running?
