A parody television series, primarily satirizing the hard-boiled school of detective fiction and the mystery novels of Raymond Chandler (1888-1959). Dick Spanner is a robotic private detective who works cases in a futuristic metropolis known as the "Big Pear" (a parody of New Yok City and its nickname as "Big Apple". The show frequently uses puns and tongue-in-cheek humor. Spanner's supporting cast included the glamorous femme fatale Mae East (a parody of Mae West), the rather paranoid police officer Lieutenant O'Grady, and recurring villains such as Sidney Sidestreet and the mob boss Mendoza.—Dimos I
