Synopsis

Madhukar "Madhu" Bhagla (Ishaan Khatter), a young college student hailing from a middle-class family in Udaipur, Rajasthan.Madhu wins a competitive eating contest and receives its prize from Parthavi Singh (Janhvi Kapoor), a strong, rich, independent girl from a political family who studies in the same college as Madhu. Madhu is smitten with Parthavi. Parthavi lives with her father Ratan, mother Ashadevi (Shalini Kapoor) and brother Roop.

His friend Purshottam (Shridhar Watsar) later finds Parthavi bathing in a lake and informs Madhu of the same. Madhu runs across town, changes clothes at his home, and then runs to the lake and jumps right into it, while the ladies were still bathing in there.Madhu impresses Parthavi but incurs a minor injury. The two begin to have feelings for each other but are unaware of it. Ambika (Ishika Gagneja) Parthavi's best friend.

Ratan is fighting the upcoming state elections for the first time and one of his major planks is that his opposing candidate Sulekha's (Balaji Gauri) daughter ran away to Mumbai with her lover. Ratan claims that her opposing candidate is not a fit administrator, as she could not even manage her own house.Ratan runs a premium hotel in his Haveli and Roop is involved in the management of the property.Ratan orders corrupt inspector Shekhawat to raid Sulekha's hotel to bring spotlight into her businesses and properties. Shekhawat conducts the raid which yields fake booze, currency notes and even drugs from the hotel premises. Sulekha is arrested, giving a major boost to Ratan's campaign prospects.

Madhu goes back to his family village cafe where his father Bhagwandas (Govind Pandey) makes him promise to stay away from Parthavi since she hails from a powerful, affluent upper-caste family. Madhu's mother is Gayatri (Aishwarya Narkar). Bhagwandas rents out rooms in his home to foreign tourists to supplement his income. Madhu helps as a tour guide and takes the foreigners to the major tourist attractions around town.

Madhu ignores Parthavi at college, but she later catches Madhu stalking her (while she was performing at a dance class). Madhu admits that it was his father who had asked him to stay away from Parthavi. Parthavi understands but wants to know what the relationship is between the two. The duo continues to flirt with each other as they try to articulate their true feelings towards one another.

The two admit their love for each other and begin meeting secretly. Parthavi is very afraid of her family, including her brother Roop. When Roop finds out that Parthavi is seeing a boy, he comes to college and slaps her professor in class, to send a clear message that his authority in his town is absolute.Slowly, the love grows, and Parthavi also starts finding occasions when she can meet Madhu.

Madhu asks Parthavi for a kiss, but the latter dares him to come to her brother Roop's (Godaan Kumar) birthday party.

Madhu and Parthavi passionately kiss at the party (when Parthavi takes Madhu away to a secluded part of the Haveli) but are discovered by Parthavi's family members. Her brother and father, politician Ratan Singh (Ashutosh Rana), thrash Madhu and his friends. Ratan wants to kill Madhu but are told by the inspector Shekhawat (Vishwanath Chatterjee) to wait for the election results before any severe action. Ratan wants to win the elections badly and has invested very heavily in it, so listens to the inspector.Parthavi is locked in her room and her mobile phone is taken away. Ambika is the only contact between Madhu and Parthavi.

Once the elections are over, Madhu and his friends are arrested on false charges registered by Parthavi's father. Shekhawat plans to take Madhu away from the city to shoot him and his friends in a fake encounter. Parthavi pleads with her father to release Madhu and his friends. In an ensuing scuffle, she manages to get hold of a gun and threatens to shoot herself if Madhu isn't freed. Madhu runs up to her and together, they elope and hides from their pursuers.With the police & Parthavi's family on their trail, Madhu and Parthavi board a train to Mumbai, where Madhu contacts his maternal uncle Arvind (Manish Singh Verma) and the two travel to Nagpur. Parthavi sells her earrings to get some money for their expenses.

Meanwhile, Sulekha, who had been released on bail, comes by to humiliate Ratan on the recent events involving his daughter. Ratan is livid and vow that the day he finds Parthavi, he will sacrifice her but will not allow his family name and honor to be tarnished.

Madhu's uncle advises them to go to Kolkata for the time being till the matter settles down. In Kolkata, they rent a small room for living; Madhu starts working in a roadside restaurant after learning Bengali while Parthavi finds work at a call center. One day, Madhu goes to her office to gift her a new phone bought from his hard-earned money.

Madhu sees Parthavi happy with her manager and thinks that she is cheating on him. Heartbroken, he returns home. After Parthavi returns home, they argue severely, Madhu slaps Parthavi in the heat of the moment. Parthavi begins to doubt why she fled with Madhu. Parthavi is briefly missing, but Madhu finds her in her office and realizes how much he loves her. He asks for her hand in marriage, and they marry.

Soon, Parthavi becomes pregnant, and they have a son, Aditya "Adi" Bhagla (Ayansh Devaliya). During the prayers for their new house, Parthavi's brother and his gang arrive with many gifts for her family, hinting at reconciliation. However, Madhu is not convinced and asks Parthavi to stay back, but she brushes it off in excitement. Parthavi leaves her son at home with Madhu and steps out to buy some sweets. As she is walking towards her house, Madhu and Aditya are thrown from the balcony abruptly, with her brother overlooking them. Parthavi cries in shock, as both her husband and son bleed profusely to death.
