Copenhagen in the 1990s. Middle-aged publisher Erik lives with a doctor called Anne in a childless and superficial marriage. At his job a young writer named Emma comes to see him, and he is fascinated by her. Meanwhile, the young playwright Stefan, who is equally fascinated with Emma, becomes one of Anne's patients. One year later all four meet at the premiere of one of Stefan's plays.—Peter Brandt Nielsen
