This film begins with the death of a newly-wed couple in a car crash. Adverse social reactions to their romance were expressed in unfounded slander, gossip and insinuations. Both emotional and cultural incompatibility rocked their nest of love. Despite this, they were able to marry, albeit amidst a show of protest from many people. Priyantha is employed at the port and he supports his elderly parents and grown up unmarried sisters. Subhashini, a mercantile employee, is the youngest daughter of a traditional conservative family whose fortunes have begun to decline. They begin a relationship but get caught up in a vortex of adverse social reaction to their affair. The two finally get married and on the day of the homecoming after relatives and friends depart the young couple reflect on their future.
