A persistent lawyer, a whistleblower and two journalists try to expose the wrongdoings of the Dutch Tax Authorities by working together with the parents whose lives have been disrupted by the tax policies.

The lives of Kysia, Rayan and their two young children seem sunny and carefree. Until a tax letter from the Benefits Department arrives on the doormat. It is the start of a nightmare that will disrupt their entire existence. At first they think it was a mistake, but when the debts quickly pile up and even the lawyer involved, Vera, cannot help them, panic sets in. The tough 'all or nothing' approach does not leave everyone within the Tax Authorities unmoved. Dennis, who was initially a fanatic in combating fraud, is increasingly tormented by remorse. At first he shies away from a role as whistleblower. But when Dennis, who has just become a father himself, is directly confronted with the damage his work is causing, he can no longer remain silent. When Vera finally manages to interest journalists in her tough fight for justice, Dennis has to overcome his fear of being caught.
