A woman becomes fascinated by a murderer and visits him in prison. At first the man is distant but later on their band is becoming ever closer. The woman wonders if she can trust the man when he is released from prison.

De Stilte van het naderen (The silence of approaching) tells the story of Susan, a successful young businesswoman who has her life in order. She has a nice job and is also on the point of marrying her colleague David. During a working visit to Antwerp, she accidentally comes face to face with Jules, a murderer who is just being removed from the courthouse. Susan becomes intrigued and confused and decides to visit this man in prison. Jules turns out to be a simple man who committed a brutal murder of his girlfriend fourteen years ago and has repented in prison. There is a close bond between Jules and Susan. During her conversations with Jules it appears that Susan has been carrying a big secret for years.
