Synopsis

Janie is a 12 year old girl with a passion for horses. She lives with her widowed mother (Kate Neely) and brother (William Neely) near a rich man's stables and acts as groom, assistant and student to the stable trainer (Pat Chapin). Pat is also the riding instructor for the rich man's 14 year old daughter, Andrea Cummings. Danny arrives to be the new show pony for Andrea but she fails to make rapport with the pony. After a horse show in which she fails to place, Danny comes up lame in his foreleg. Monty and Andrea Cummings look at him as a write-off but in seeing Janie's distress her mother's boyfriend (Mike DeVito) secretly buys the pony and gives him to her via Mr. Cummings. As she nurses the pony back to soundness Andrea shows increasing signs of jealousy and brattiness. To celebrate Danny's return to health he is entered in a horse show along with Andrea's new hunter. After bad luck in the first two classes Janie gets a blue ribbon with Danny in the last class they entered but Danny turns up lame as they leave the ring.
