Evil assassins want to kill Daniel Kublbock, the third runner up for the German Idols.
In the film, rock star Daniel Küblböck is described as "loved by millions, hated by many." Teenagers Rike and Tom plot to kill Daniel, encouraged by the mysterious Baltazar, while Daniel receives spiritual support from his deceased grandfather, Johnny.
The teens' first attempt to kill Daniel is foiled by his vocal coach. Daniel is set to audition for a Hollywood screen test. Meanwhile, Johnny and Baltazar, symbolizing the forces of good and evil, converse, with Johnny temporarily transforming Baltazar into a cockroach as a warning. Baltazar, exasperated, uses the phrase "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here!" to be changed back.
Daniel meets Petra, a fan who works at her grandfather's cafe in Eggenfelden. Her grandfather, who dislikes Daniel's music, reluctantly accepts free concert tickets from Daniel, who buys and tastes all the cafe's cakes.
Rike and Tom plan to shoot Daniel at his concert but instead kidnap him. Encouraged by Baltazar, they intend to film the murder to gain fame. However, they struggle with their unhappy childhoods and cannot go through with the plan. Tom eventually agrees to release Daniel if he doesn't report the kidnapping. Daniel returns to his concert, winning over Petra's grandfather.
Later, Johnny advises Daniel to gift his guitar to Rike and Tom for Christmas. Skeptical at first, Daniel follows through, surprising them, and the trio bonds over the guitar in the snowy garden.
Johnny and Baltazar reflect on their battle, with Johnny revealing he has passed his magic wand to Daniel. Daniel finds the wand under the Christmas tree, a gift from his one-armed grandfather. His grandmother recounts how she met her husband at Oktoberfest. Daniel dreams of stardom but is haunted by fears, reassured by Johnny. Daniel prays at church, and the film ends with him joyously dancing at his concert.
