Advocate Nivaran Chatterjee lives a wealthy lifestyle in a small town along with his wife, and three sons. His first son is married, while his second son, Kedarnath, who suffered a head injury, is a little senile, and his third son, Amarnath, is a brilliant student. Amarnath falls in love with Beeni Mukherjee, who is a good student, has an elder dominating sister, Saraswati, who is brilliant. Kedar is attracted to Saraswati but lacks the courage to approach her. In their home arrives his nephew, Kedar (Tapas), a perpetual failure in studies and an extremely simpleton (he mentions due to a head injury). Kedar falls in love with the serious and brilliant Saraswati (Mahua), Bini's elder sister. The leader of the local club Bhombol (Anup) decides to have fun with the simpleton and presents him as a brilliant sportsman, scholar etc at Saraswati's home. Saraswati is impressed and she too gets attracted. Her parents too approve of Kedar and rejects a wealthy match, of course with Saraswati's nod.
