The Ukrainian veteran who returns home burnt out and traumatized from war but hoping to find peace for himself and his family

Serhiy returns home after serving as commander for 3 years in the war between Ukraine and Russia. He carried the weight and responsibility of other people's lives. Now he finds himself torn between two battles - one to cope with his past, another to bond with his wife Nadiia and their three sons. The veteran is trying to cherish happy moments with his family. In late evenings he is opening up to the filmmaker about war. Reality starts to crumble when Serhiy and Nadiia start expecting a baby daughter as the war trauma is overwhelming and is forcing Serhiy to realize he can't handle a family life anymore. As a large-scale Russian invasion breaks out, Serhiy is compelled to defend Ukraine on the front line.

The unseen damage inflicted by war on personal relationships pushes war veteran Serhiy away from his family. Haunted by loss and war, he battles to reconnect with his wife, Nadiia, and their three sons, Sasha (11), Artem (8) and Nikita (3). The film takes an unexpected turn when Serhiy turns the camera on the director herself. This role reversal creates a space for vulnerable dialogue about love and human relationships as the filmmaker shares her own experiences of a breakup with another Ukrainian war veteran. The trust and empathy built between the protagonist and the filmmaker not only convey war's lasting emotional toll but also showcase the healing potential of storytelling and documentary filmmaking.—Dimitra Kouzi
