The cartoon historian Jerry Beck presents a collection of three 1960s commercials for Cap'n Crunch cereal. "Cap'n Crunch's Treasure Chest": Cap'n Crunch and crew find a treasure chest, just like the one available on the back of the cereal package. Jean LaFoote, the barefoot pirate, tries to steal it. Untitled: Magnolia Bulkhead and Otis use sonar to find Cap'n Crunch. On the ship, Carlyle nearly gives him away by crunching his cereal. The captain gets the idea to feed several boxes of cereal to a whale. Magnolia and Otis follow the crunching whale away from the ship. "Cap'n Crunch and the Mermaid": On a remote island, Magnolia Bulkhead, aided by her sidekick Otis, lures the captain and his crew by disguising herself as a mermaid and using a record player to fake her singing. The captain discerns the ruse when the record skips.—J. Spurlin
