Based on Luanne Rice's 1988 book.
Three generations of women live on a small island off the coast of Washington state with their men, with whom they have no end of problems. While making a documentary of marital violence, Georgie finds herself giving into the overwhelming jealous urges that put a strain on her marriage. Through revelations about her parents and sister's relationships and her own flirtation, Georgie comes to grips with life on and off the island.—Susan Southall <[email protected]>
The grandmother has been a widow since 1931 when she was younger than her granddaughter Georgie is now. Georgie has spent her entire life on an island near Seattle with her grandmother, mother, and sister Clare. Living on an emotional island as well, Georgie makes a foray into the outside world and learns a lot about herself and three generations of women who have had a very hard time indeed keeping men in their lives.—Dale O'Connor <[email protected]>
