Summaries

The story of the Chilean musical group Congreso, told through a series of interviews with past and present members of the group and some of the well-known musicians and other people they influenced. While many outspoken Chilean artists were sent into exile when General Pinochet came to power, Congreso stayed and remained active in Chile throughout the dictatorship. The subtext of their lyrics told of the terrors of the regime, and conveyed a message of freedom. Congreso began their career with a mix of folk and rock, and to this day they continue to blend different styles of music in unique ways. While they have never achieved superstar status, Congreso is recognized as one of the most innovative Chilean groups in 40 years.—Anonymous
