Two families from the southern United States live in a period after the liberation of slaves granted by Abraham Lincoln. Colonel Abel, an inflexible man with a dictatorial temperament, continues to enslave blacks. Senator Miler, whose son is the city sheriff, fights for the maintenance of order, even if it costs the lives of its members. In the end, after bloody conflicts, the dictator succumbs.
