A vengeful barbarian warrior sets off to get his revenge on the evil warlord who attacked his village and murdered his father when he was a boy.
Many years ago, sorcerers crafted the Mask of Acheron and dark forces of Acheron conquered the world. However, the barbarians vanquished Acheron warriors and broke the Mask into pieces and divided among the tribes. The barbarian Cimmerian village of chief Corin is attacked by the evil warlord Khalar Zym that wants the last piece of bone of the Mask of Acheron to resurrect his wife. When his witch daughter Marique finds the hidden piece, he slaughters the villagers and the Corin's son Conan is the only survivor. Conan swears revenge against Khalar Zym. Years later, the warrior Conan is a pirate and he decides to release slaves from a field. When he is celebrating in a tavern with his friends, he sees a thief being chased by a guard and Conan recognizes him as Lucius, the Khalar Zym's soldier that he cut the nose out. Conan let the guards capture him and once in the prison, he forces Lucius to tell him where Khalar Zym is. Meanwhile Khalar Zym attacks a monastery where Marique believes that a pure-blood descent of Acheron lives. But the monk sent the descent Tamara back to her homeland. After the Oceans swallowed Atlantis, and the age of the modern man, came the age when Kingdoms were spread all over the world. The dark empire of Acheron had cruel Necromancers who sought the secrets of resurrection. They crafted a mask from the bones of kings and awakened its wrath with the pure blood of their daughters. The mask summoned spirits of unspeakable evil, giving the Acherons power that no mortal should possess. Acheron enslaved the civilized world, leaving only the Barbarian tribes to stand against them.The mask was shattered, and Acheron fell. Born on a battlefield, Conan (Jason Momoa) is the son of Corin (Ron Perlman), barbarian chieftain and his wife Fialla (Laila Rouass). As a child, he proves himself a skilled but violent warrior to his father. Corin takes Conan under his wings and trains him and even forges a new sword for Conan.One day, Conan's village is attacked by Khalar Zym (Stephen Lang), a warlord who wishes to reunite the Mask of Acheron to revive his dead wife Maliva (Gisella Marengo), an evil sorceress, and conquer Hyboria. The mask, crafted by sorcerers and used to subjugate the world, was broken into pieces and scattered among the barbarian tribes to prevent unification.After locating Corin's tribe's piece with the help of his daughter Marique and slaughtering the entire village, Zym leaves Conan the only survivor.With the Corin piece, the mask is complete and now Zym needs a pure-blood to activate it.
Years later, Conan, now an adult, is a pirate and hunts Zym, seeking revenge for his father's death. Artus is Conan's friend. Conan now fights to free slaves all over the world.In the city of Messantia, he meets Ela-Shan (Said Taghmaoui), a thief being chased by Lucius (Steven O'Donnell), one of Zym's soldiers that Conan recognizes from his village's slaughter. He allows himself to be captured alongside Ela-Shan to confront Lucius. Torturing him, Conan learns that Zym seeks the female pure-blood descendant of the sorcerers of Acheron to unleash the mask's power. Conan frees Lucius' prisoners, who kill Lucius. Conan heads to Khor Kalba, to confront Zym. Ela-Shan accompanies Conan as a thanks for saving his life.
Zym and his daughter, the sorceress Marique (Rose McGowan), attack the Shaipur monastery to find the pure-blood descendant. Fassir (Raad Rawi), a monk, tells his student, Tamara (Rachel Nichols), to flee, knowing she is whom Zym seeks.Conan rescues Tamara and captures Zym's right-hand man, Remo (Milton Welsh) who was pursuing Tamara through the forest. After learning Tamara's identity, Conan catapults Remo into Zym's camp, killing him and sending Zym a message to meet him at the Shaipur Bay Outpost at midday.Zym reminds Fassir that once upon a time, all nations of Hyboria, chased his wife in the forest of Ophir. Zym and his daughter were forced to watch as his wife Maliva was chained and set aflame. Fassir retorts that Maliva wanted to enslave all of Hyboria and hence deserved to die.
Marique tells Zym that she has same blood as Maliva and that in time she can attain the powers to unlock the secrets of Acheron. But Zym is adamant to bring back Maliva.
Zym and Marique confront Conan at the appointed location and Zym finally recognizes him as the boy he left alive. In the middle of their battle, Marique poisons Conan with a boomerang sword and he has to be rescued by Tamara.They jump into the sea and return to Conan's ship, where he recovers. The boat is attacked by Zym's men, but Conan and his gang defeat them.Conan departs for Zym's kingdom. His friend Artus (Nonso Anozie) sends Tamara after him, and the two spend the night together. The next day, as she is returning to the boat, Tamara is captured by Zym's men.
Conan asks Ela-Shan for help breaking into Zym's castle at Khor Kalba. Zym takes Tamara to the skull cave where he begins the ceremony to resurrect Maliva. Zym uses Tamara's blood to mend the mask, planning to use her body as a vessel for his wife's soul. After confronting a tentacled monster that guards Zym's dungeons, Conan frees Tamara and battles Zym, eventually reclaiming the sword Marique had stolen from his father. He also cuts off Marique's hand and she is fatally impaled.
Conan and Tamara become trapped on a bridge as Zym uses the mask's power to call forth his wife. Her spirit begins to possess Tamara's body. Conan destroys the bridge, causing Zym to fall into the lava below as he and Tamara escape. As the mask is destroyed before Maliva can possess Tamara's body, she is back to herself again.
Conan returns Tamara to her birthplace, then travels to his old village. He recalls the memory of his father, content that he has avenged his death and recovered his father's sword, thereby restoring his honor.
