"Commander Retro" was a space themed children's hosted show with host Willard Scott as "Commander Retro", assisted by Luther as "Dr. Strangedog".

The show aired from 17 September 1966 until 24 February 1968 on Saturdays from 8:30am - 9:30am, broadcast in colour, broadcast from WRC-TV 4, Northwest Washington, Washington, USA. The premise of the show: - The adventures of a physicist ("Dr. Strangedog"), who had been a German spy, stowed away on the rocket ship. He ate too many hotdog sausages, causing him to explode; and somehow turned into a dog. The rocket ship set had control panels made of plastic mini-ice cube trays with blinking Christmas lights behind them. The show also featured the Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers movie serials.—The Professor
