Lu Yan Shi is an intellectual during the Communist Revolution, working in the deserts of Western China. Separated from his wife, with whom he has a loveless marriage, he returns home after 20 years when Fang Wan Yu is almost on her deathbed. At the brink of such a difficult time, the two decide to start anew in the final years of their life.
