Summaries

'Clearcut Nation' examines the decimation by extreme clearcutting that is occurring in the watersheds of northern California--the watersheds that support all of the life in the state. It focuses on a particular watershed as an example, but overall is about how we treat, and relate to, the natural world. It includes interviews with author Derrick Jensen, botanist Julie Kierstead Nelson, PhD fire and vegetation ecologist Dennis Odion, PhD hydrologist Tom Myers, wildlife biologist Monica Bond, and rural residents who have experienced the vast changes to the land. This film is based on 8 years of research and field work, as well as decades of life experience in the wild lands of California.[email protected]

Synopsis

This is an important call to action to protect the few remaining forests in California. It exposes the mass devastation, including the killing off of endangered species and the incredible amounts of herbicides sprayedbefore and after clear cutting our forests.

This herbicide spraying is taking place all over the watershed that supplies water to millions of Californians.

Sierra Pacific Industries in particular, clear cuts thousands of acres and pretends (with Cal Fire's help) that is has no impact right next door....where they cut the next year.

The sheer size of this devastation is heartbreaking.

The biggest point I took away from this movie is that our regulations are toothless. They are not enforced. Clearcut Nation makes the case, now we need to do something about it.
