Vince Perrino is a burned-out newspaper writer who's goated by his ruthless boss, publisher Harrison Crawford III, into tracking the moves of Tony Pate, a vicious serial killer through a big city.

A psycho-on-the-loose story, about a burned-out newspaper columnist and his circulation-hungry publisher who wants him to turn the killer into Page One news.—Anonymous

Released shortly after his death,David Janssen gives a tour de force performance as newspaper columnist Vince Perrino. Featuring many character actors of the day, this drama loosely based the Son of Sam frenzy features three points of view: the reporter, the killer(played by a young Mickey Rourke) and the police. The movie works best from the reporter's point of view as Perrino tries to cash in on his 'exclusive contacts between himself and the killer with a book deal. The always reliable Robert Vaughn contributes as Janssen's publisher boss/nemesis who wants a story for his paper at any cost to boost circulation. Presently this movie is only on VHS, but it is worth seeking out.—patricktrny
