After fighter pilot Rudakov miraculously avoids being convicted at a military tribunal, he is enlisted to fly an important mission into enemy territory. However, when his plane is shot down, Rudakov hijacks a German Messerschmitt from a nearby airfield and under the cover of the "enemy's wings", joins a partisan faction fighting against Nazi Germany. A top SS officer soon discovers that the plane is being flown by a pilot and orders his troops to go after him. And he is not the only one. Kezhayev, who originally instigated the tribunal, has also been ordered to bring Rudakov's plane down.
