Created by Toho (who famously produced the Godzilla movies) and Konami, it was their attempt to break into the Henshin Hero market that was - at the time - dominated by Toei and their two major franchises, Super Sentai and Kamen Rider, with Tsuburaya's Ultra Series for good measure. The shows revolve around the title Ultra Star Gods: Humongous Mecha that are used by the protagonists to protect the Earth from an extraterrestrial threat. This is the first entry was Chou Sei Shin Gransazer, that aired in 2003. The Earth was once a highly advanced civilization until it was attacked by the Alien Alliance. The Earth built giant mecha known as Ultra Star Gods to defend themselves, but even with their power the Earth was eventually defeated. Millions of years later, the Lost Technology of that ancient civilization is stirring, awakening the ancient DNA lying dormant in twelve chosen warriors that calls them to fight a new alien threat once more. The twelve heroes- the Gransazer- were each named after a star sign and arranged into four elemental Tribes: Fire, Wind, Earth and Water. The main protagonists are the Fire Tribe, and the three other Tribes originally enter as antagonists to them, either directly or indirectly. When all three members of a Tribe gather, they can awaken and summon their respective Ultra Star Gods.—TVTropes

Also known as Super Star God Gransazers, which is the translated Japanese title, The Gransazers was Toho's successful Saturday morning show that began airing in 2003. The production was a large collaboration, with other companies involved including TV Tokyo, Konami, and Gansis. The program also inherited several key players from the Godzilla franchise, including special effects director Koichi Kawakita, who came out of retirement for the series, along with Kenji Suzuki and Kunio Miyoshi, who both directed numerous episodes. The story of the show focuses on the descendants of an advanced human civilization, which was wiped out billions of years ago during a conflict with a terrestrial race called the Astral Allies. The twelve descendants, called Sazers, form four separate tribes: Fire, Wind, Earth and Water. Each Sazer posses extraordinary powers, and is able to control the Gransazers, mammoth war machines constructed by their ancient ancestors. At first, the tribes begin to wage wars amongst each other on Earth, until they discover that the Astral Allies are planning another strike, this time with the intent of wiping out humankind. Upon this revelation, the tribes join forces to mobilize a resistance against the invaders, and protect the future of all life on Earth. The show ended up marking the first entry in what would later be called the "Super Star God" series. Follow ups include The Justirisers and Super Fleet Sazer-X, the latter of which also had its own movie, Super Fleet Sazer-X the Movie: Fight. Soldiers (2005), that features characters from all three shows.—Toho Kingdom

The first of Toho and Konami's ChouSeiShin trilogy, a trilogy of tokusatsu shows aired from 2003-2006. Millions of years ago, the Earth was once a highly-advanced civilization until the day it was attacked by an alliance of alien races called "Warp Monarch". Though humanity built giant humanoid war machines called "Ultra Star Gods" to defend themselves, the civilization was ultimately defeated by Warp Monarch's superior numbers.
Now in the modern day, the Lost Technology of that precursor race is stirring, awakening the dormant DNA of their descendants in response to a new threat. Courier Tenma Kudou discovers that he is one of the chosen, gaining the power to transform into one of the twelve legendary warriors known as the Gransazer.
Like their ancestors, the Gransazer are split into four elemental Tribes: Fire, Wind, Earth and Water. As the leader of the reborn Fire Tribe, Tenma (as Sazer Tarious) soon finds both allies and enemies in the other three Tribes as he struggles to unite them in the face of the alien menace that threatens to repeat the genocide of the past. Fortunately he has help, for when three members of the same Tribe unite their powers they can summon their respective Ultra Star God and take the fight to the enemy.
