Five Indians living in London find themselves thrown together when two of them are implicated for a bomb blast. An Indian lawyer enters the scene to bail them out of their predicament.
Christmas Eve, London. While the snow-clad city gets ready to celebrate the festival of peace and joy, a series of bizarre incidents shatter the Christmas calm. A couple of luckless Indians find themselves hauled by the London police and made scapegoats. Or are they? Chocolate unfolds a web of sinister plots, slowly unearthing true and mystifying personalities of seven individuals - seven high-strung, distinctive people who have chosen to remain in the foreign land hoping to make or break their lives.—gavin ([email protected])
Following the September 11, 2001 attacks in the U.S.A., an explosion in a motor boat shatters the peaceful silence on Christmas eve in London, Britain. Following this incident is a daring robbery from an armored vehicle carrying billions of pounds. The police suspect two East Indians - Pipi and Simran Chopra. They are interrogated extensively amidst allegations that they may be linked to Al Qaeda. Then a Crime Journalist, Monsoon Iyer, comes to know about their plight, meets them, and asks her boyfriend, Advocate Krishan Pundit, to represent them. Krishan meets with the two, listens to their side of the incidents, is convinced of their innocence, and quite sure that the above two incidents as well as the deaths of three of Pipi and Simran's friends were the actions of a notorious terrorist named Murtaza Arafi. But is their version the truth of what actually happened? If Krishan continues to defend them will he also be made a scapegoat by the British authorities? As well be on the hit-list of Murtuza?—rAjOo ([email protected])
Following the 11 September 2001 attacks in the US, an explosion in a motorboat shatters the peace on Christmas Eve in London, UK killing 30 people. Following this incident is a daring robbery on an armored vehicle carrying billions of pounds. The police suspect two Indians: Pipi (Irrfan Khan) and Sim (Tanushree Dutta). Police finds the wallet of an Indian named Rocker (Sunil Shetty), at the boat. They suspect Rocker to have robbed the armored van and then carrying out the act of terrorism.. The wallet had Rocker's photo with his 2 friends Pipi and Sim.They are interrogated extensively with allegations that they may be linked to Al-Qaeda. Rockers 2 other friends are missing Chip (Arshad Warsi) and Deva (Emraan Hashmi)
Crime journalist Monsoon Iyer (Sushma Reddy) learns about their plight, meets them, and asks advocate Krishan Pundit (Anil Kapoor) to represent them in court. Krishan meets with the two, listens to their side of the incidents. Pipi says the 5 were friends. Sim was a waitress, Chip a hacker, Deva a tech guy, and Rocker a petty thief. Pipi was a street artist. They were all passionate about music and had an amateur band. They were approached by a rich man Vivek Agnihotri (Jagmohan Mundhra), who wanted them to compose a jingle for 20000 pounds in one night. rocker was against taking up the assignment and the same night, Rocker was killed.rocker walked away, while the remaining 4 work all night to compose the jingle. Just after they play the jingle, all the dogs in the house go mad and start running towards a window.
The next morning, they board the metro to go and meet Vivek. But they discover a mysterious person singing the same jingle they composed last night. The quad runs after him, but Pipi loses his specs and cant see anything. They are lured into a cemetery where Chip and Deva are shot. Pipi and Sim never go to the police since the revolver used to shoot Chip and Deva belonged to Sim (the shooter snatched it from Sim at the cemetery).
Rocker used to love Sim, despite Pipi's reservations that Sim is a smart and clever girl. Monsoon thinks Sim is trying to seduce Krishan. Sim says Roshan Gandhi (Raj Zutshi) was her friend and used to support him financially. Sim admits to Krishan that she didn't love Rocker.. Roshan introduced Rocker to the world of drug trafficking, as Rocker wanted to get rich to marry Sim. Rocker had gifted Sim the gun.Rocker owed money to Roshan and Roshan had threatened to go after all the 5 friends, if Rocker didn't pay up (Rocker sold the drugs, but lost the bag that had 50,000 pounds in it).
Roshan asks Rocker and his friends to snatch a briefcase full of money from a Dubai based man Roshan Abbas (Kelly Dorjee) who is in the UK to sell arms. The team sets up an ambush but the British police arrives and rescues Abbas. Turns out British police runs the mafia in the UK. Krishan does his own investigation and figures that there was no ambush, or firefight in the basement as Pipi and Sim claimed.
Krishan investigates further through his contact Bilal (Murli Sharma). Bilal runs a police cab service in the UK and says his service is closed for 6 months as his car was burnt by vandals. He cant share Abbas's whereabouts either. Krishan confronts Pipi, who admits that the team ambushed Abbas in the police cab service to snatch the suitcase full of money and to set the car on fire. Deva shot 2 policemen who tried to escape.
The briefcases is handed over to Roshan. Soon, the team is summoned by Murtaza Arzai's henchman, who says that the briefcase with Abbas belonged to him. The henchman reveals secrets of each member of the team, which the others didn't know. This leads to speculation that one of the team members is Murtaza Arzai. Pipi relates one incident of Murtaza, back when he was in Afghanistan. Al Qaeda kidnapped his family and waited for him to return. When Murtaza returned, he understood the situation and shot his own family before killing the Al Qaeda men.Murtaza has a delivery of 20 Billion pounds of arms sitting in the harbor. But Abbas is dead, so there is no way to secure the money. Operation Chocolate is to task the team to rob an armored van of 20 Bn pounds and to travel to the harbor to take delivery of the arms. They would be paid 50 Mn pounds for this job. Rocker and the team carry out the daring heist by pooling their talents together.
Krishan is convinced of their innocence, and is quite sure that the two incidents, as well as the deaths of three of Pipi and Sim's friends (Chip, Deva and Rocker), were the actions of a notorious terrorist named Murtaza Arzai.Krishan again investigates and finds that whenever Murtaza fakes his death, he leaves a dead & charred body behind. He has done this 4 times before. Krishan theorizes that Rocker is Murtaza. The team decides to travel to the harbor as planned to take delivery of arms. Pipi panics and triggers a blackout which leads to a shootout, in which 30 people die, including DEva, Chip and Rocker. Pipi claims that he saw Murtaza Arzai kill Deva, Chip and Rocker.
Listening to Sim and Pipi, Krishan investigates and pieces together the story of how the three died on the boat that night at Arzai's hand. Krishan succeeds in persuading the presiding judge of their innocence, and the charges against them are dismissed and sealed. However, a fleeting glance at a magazine lying on his office table tells Krishan that the names in Sim and Pipi's story match up with names on the magazine's cover stories and the story must therefore be made up.
Sim and Pipi escape Scott free, to meet with Rocker, Devaa, and Chip whose supposed deaths turn out to be part of the ruse. Basically 5 thieves stole 20 Bn pounds and Pipi and Sim crafted a full fictitious story with clippings from a magazine to portray themselves as victims rather than thieves. The team is seen sipping champagne on the open seas in a yacht ..
