Hideki finds the discarded and malfunctioning Persocom Chi, a personal computer that looks like a girl. While trying to fix and care for Chi, Hideki discovers that she might be a Chobits, a robot of urban legend that has free will.

A simple farm boy dreams of getting into a collage in Tokyo, but the greatly disappointed when they reject him. Hideki decided to move to Tokyo anyways and attend prep-school. While in Tokyo, he discovers these computers that look exactly like humans minus the ears. Of course, he falls head over heels until he sees the price tag. Luckily, he finds one in the trash.

Hideki Motosuwa is a poor country guy who just moved to the city to further his study. One day on his way home from work, he discovers a 'Persocom', a maiden-shaped robot laying in the dumpster, discarded and wrapped up in bandages.—DX Garten
