Synopsis

Up-and-coming singer songwriter Annie Chase and her band are stranded without cash in a small town when their car breaks down on their way to a recording session in Hollywood.

Without money and stuck in a motel, Annie works as a waitress in the local diner, but her boyfriend, Jake, gambles the cash away while she isn't looking.

Meantime, the local tow-truck operator, Tommy, sets his mind to sleeping with Annie in payment for car repairs, while his brother, Billie, goes after the motel maid, Angela, and his simpleton younger brother, Shorty, watches.

Angela ends up dead after a date with Billie - but the brothers blame the crime on a mystery newcomer to the motel, Derek.

Unwilling to tolerate racism, Annie finds a witness to the crime and gets Derek off the hook, only to find out, that Derek might be her ride to Hollywood.
