After an attempt on his life, music mogul Kelly Washington has to return to the underbelly of NYC to hunt down who's responsible, forcing him to trust enemies and suspect friends.
Centered in the NYC music scene. Kelly Washington is a music mogul and A-List celebrity. Adored and admired by many, he is living his dreams and enjoying life to the fullest. He attends Danielle Scott's event with several friends and colleagues including business partner and real estate multi-millionaire Byron Oliver. Kelly and Byron Oliver have made a fortune together. Kelly informs Byron that he would like to end their business together to enable him to explore other ventures. Their conversation is cut short however because Byron has a flight to catch. He agrees to wrap up all business with Kelly within the week then leaves. Kelly and his fiancé Mimi also decide to leave. While leaving the party, an altercation between Kelly and Carter Blanche, whom he has had many problems with in the past, occurs. Heated words are exchanged between the two entourages that eventually lead to gunfire. Kelly and Mimi dash to their limousine and are whisked away. Seemingly out of danger Kelly and Mimi try to relax when all of the sudden a hail of bullets fly in the vehicle. A frantic car chase ensues. There are several SUVs in pursuit of the limousine. More shots are fired with one hitting and killing the driver. This causes the limousine to flip and crash. Kelly suffers a flesh wound and is knocked unconscious while Mimi has been fatally shot and killed. Kelly does not become aware of this until the following day at the hospital.
Around the same time of the attempt on Kelly's life, his childhood friend/manager is brutally murdered. Detective Jack Reasner and Derek Ingram are assigned to the case. Reasner and Ingram are 2 of NYPDs finest. They are good partners but also great friends. Det. Ingram is a family man and a rising star on the force. He is well respected amongst his peers and is shooting up the ranks fast because of this. Reasner is also a top cop but unlike Ingram, his personal life isn't as harmonious. Ingram's family has embraced Reasner as a part of theirs and treats him as such. After some digging they find out that the murder victim is affiliated to Kelly Washington. Seeming to be more than a coincidence that both Kelly and his partner are victims of two separate shootings, their investigation leads them to LA, where the thwarted murder attempt on Kelly took place. When Kelly awakens the next day at the hospital, things become more stressful when he is greeted by Det. Jack Reasner and Det. Derek Ingram. After questioning him, they inform him they believe Cart Blanche was responsible for the shootings.
As Reasner and Ingram try to solve the case, they delve deep into the music industry as they interrogate Cart Blanche, another music heavyweight, who is a suspect due to the highly publicized rift between him and Kelly, They turn to their eyes and ears on to the street and music world, and are informed about what is being said and who is up to what. They are led to a nightclub owner/corrupt community politician, Terrell Link Cargill. Link is an opportunist at heart and has a sleazy, can't be trusted demeanor about him. Sensing this, Reasner and Ingram dig deeper into his background and eventually their investigation much to their surprise, takes them to the powerful and affluent corporate powerhouse Byron Oliver. They are curious and suspicious about the connection between all the gentlemen in question, especially when they all come from two very different worlds.
With the walls seemingly closing in, a slow moving case and no one to turn to for advice or guidance, Kelly turns to his father who he once looked to for direction. He also unexpectedly starts to get intimately close to Danielle Scott who has been constantly by his side to comfort him through his ordeal. They become an item but discord between them is inevitable due to Danielle's friendship to Kelly's nemesis Cart. Not knowing who to trust, Danielle quickly finds herself under suspicion by Kelly. Is she strategically getting close to Kelly to set him up for Cart? Ultimately, Kelly puts her in a compromising position by insisting she chooses between the two. Danielle is a strong willed independent thinker but like most finds herself torn between her head and her heart. Which will she choose? Or will Kelly's overbearing demands choose for her?
Kelly, knows that he is a target and any day can be his last. He cannot rest until he finds out who is behind the events that have taken place. Is it his one-time childhood friend, Carter Blanche or is it someone else? The action starts to heat up when Kelly starts to take matters in his own hands. Det. Reasner and Ingram are getting close to the truth but as they do, it is becoming more obvious how deep this rabbit hole goes. They instantly find themselves in perilous danger. One of them won't survive what's to come. Kelly wants revenge and he will have it; but at what cost?
