When a video game designer stumbles into a blackmail conspiracy, he clashes with contract killers, Russian mobsters, and compromised cops in a wild journey through the bizarro world of Los Angeles. Uniquely told through a first-person point of view, Burning Dog is a relentless suspense thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end.
Five (Adam Bartley Voice, Chris Todd) (Five is a nickname as the guy lives in apartment number 5) is a video game designer who works for his boss Ted. Ted has asked Five to fix his new game in 24 hours. Five specializes in first person shooting games.Five is panicking and goes to his favorite diner to get some breakfast. There he picks a toy at the door and goes to sit inside, only to be confronted by Smythe (Greg Grunberg) and Wesson (Salvator Xuereb). Five is warned by the waiter beforehand, and he tries to escape the diner when he sees that Smythe and Wesson are armed. He enters a residential neighborhood and ends up falling in a pool where a model was doing her photo-shoot.
Five is knocked out by 2 different men and when he comes about, he meets Eddie (Eddie Jemison) and Bill (Hugo Armstrong). Basically, Eddie had a video clip with which he wanted to blackmail Smythe. He put the clip inside a SD chip which was in the toy. The plan was to deliver the toy to Smythe via some kids, but Five picked the toy and messed up the plan. Now Eddie thinks he was somehow involved.
But then Smythe and Wesson track down Five and confront Eddie, who runs away. Five tries to escape in the chaos, but Smythe knocks out Five again. Wesson and Smythe inform Five that they are both cops. They believe that Five was the one who made the video with the intention to blackmail Smythe (Smythe and Wesson believed that the blackmailers had a video of Smythe performing a sexual act, which would be bad for the image of the cops). Smythe says that they have Five on charges of evasion and possession of an illegally obtained video clip. They take him to Smythe's girlfriend Julie's (Adrienne Wilkinson) house.
Julie does porn shows for private clients on the internet sex chat sites. Eddie and Bill hacked her internet and made a video of her with a client. Smythe and Wesson use the SD card and play the video. They are scared when they see who the client is. Julie tells them that her client has hired Denon (Chris Butler), who is ex-military as his muscle. Eddie and Bill had blackmailed the client for money, but the client wanted proof that the clip existed, and that proof was in the toy box which Five brought to Wesson & Smythe. If the client doesn't pay, Eddie and Bill would release the video.
Smythe and Wesson take Five to the meeting with Denon, where all 3 are abducted. Denon shows Smythe and Wesson a video of them attacking a Russian mob house in full tactical gear with an intention to start a gun fight. Denon knows that releasing this video will lead to both being fired. Denon gives them 3 hours to produce the original sex chat video in exchange for their careers. The trio meet Pat (Johnny Dower), the guy runs Julie's website. He says the hacker was untraceable due to a Trojan written by Braverman (Andrew Gilbert). As they track Braverman they are followed by Marek (Gary Patent), who is with the Russian mob. Wesson corners him and shoots him in the leg. As Smythe and Wesson chase Braverman, Eddie and Bill again kidnap Five (who was left behind in the car).
Eddie and Bill want to protect their identity from the cops, and they handover the hard drive with the sex chat video to Five and want him to extract the money from Smythe and Wesson. When Smythe is away, Braverman tells Wesson that Pat is the one who hacked the website and stole the video and used the Trojan to lay digital crumbs from Braverman all the way to Wesson's own computer.
Smythe and Wesson take Five to the exchange with Denon. Five hands the hard drive to Denon and Denon gives him the money in bonds. Five asks Denon for help against Smythe and is asked to leave. Five tries to leave from the back door (Smythe and Wesson are waiting at the front) and is tracked down by Smythe. The deal is not complete yet. The drive is encrypted with a key card, which is still with Eddie. Once Eddie gets the bonds, he gives the key card to Denon, who will give the Russian mob video to Smythe and Wesson.
Smythe and Wesson return to Julie's and Wesson spots Pat near the house. He believes that Pat is working with Eddie and Bill, and Julie might be in on it too. Before going to the meeting with Eddie and Bill, Wesson hides the real bonds and replaces it with fakes. At the meeting, the Russians attack after Marek reveals saying that he "followed the girl", confirming that Julie was in on the deal. After a shootout, Eddie and Bill corner Five, Smythe and Wesson. Eddie tasers Five, who wakes up in detective Jake's cabin (Matt Bushell).
Jake talks to Five to get his whole story from start to finish. Five tells Jake where he had asked Wesson to save the bonds. Turns out Jake was working with Eddie, Bill, Pat & Julie.
Smythe and Wesson change the game at the last minute. Wesson and Braverman had been working together from the start to alert the FBI who had now surrounded the building. All the culprits are arrested. Denon is FBI.
