Summaries

A dissolute rich society boy marries a worldly nightclub singer, and she begins to have a wholly unexpected effect on him.

Based on the 1931 Broadway play, which was inspired by the real-life marriage of singer Libby Holman and tobacco tycoon Smith Reynolds, this is the story of nightclub singer Abby Fane (Carole Lombard) who, unable to tolerate the dissipated existence of her millionaire husband Rodney Deane (Gene Reynolds), walks out on the wastrel. Soap-opera reformation, redemption, and forgiveness may be in the offing.—Les Adams <[email protected]>
