To help build a family tree, single mom Amelia tracks down her daughter's biological father. It becomes a journey of trust, love, and discovering the meaning of family.

Amelia is a single mother to Ruby. They are the only members of their family, as Ruby was conceived through a donation. At school, they are given an assignment to create and present a family tree. Ruby doesn't want to do it because she has no family beyond Amelia. However, when she learns that it's possible to trace the donor (her father) through a DNA test, she pressures Amelia into agreeing to it. This leads them to connect with TJ, Ruby's biological father. It becomes a challenge not only for TJ, who must suddenly come to terms with being a father, but also for Amelia, whose own father betrayed her deeply during her childhood.
