School Teacher Satyakant Shastri (Mithun Chakraborty) has two children, Surya (Akshay Kumar) and Shiv (Shiv Panditt). Surya brawls with another child multiple times in and out of school. One day, Satyakant finds them fighting and throws them both in the school storeroom. When the storeroom is opened, the other kid is found impaled on a rod, and Surya takes the blame for his death. Surya returns home after he spends 3 years in juvenile detention. But the father of the dead kid attacks Surya when he is alone and wants to kill him. Surya defends himself and counterattacks with a steel bucket eventually killing the dead boy's father. Satyakant misses the whole thing but sees Surya killing the father. Satyakant kicks Surya out of the family and disowns him.But each of the times Surya was only acting in self-defense, trying to uphold his own father's respect or trying to protect his brother Shiv from the goons. But this was never seen or acknowledged by Satyakant who only saw Surya as a ruffian. Years later, Shiv grows up as a dear son to his father, and also the only son as neither him nor his dad have seen Surya for years.

Shiv travels to Delhi and stays with his maternal uncle Zorawar (Johnny Lever) who is a sub-inspector. Zorawar has been assigned as security for officer Ayushman's sister. But Zorawar sends Shiv as himself on this assignment.Shiv is already in love with Ankita (Aditi Rao Hydari) (Shiv and Ankita had met during a college festival in Jaipur), who turns out to be the sister of a corrupt Police Officer named Ayushman Thakur (Ronit Roy). Ayushman is in cahoots with the corrupt and power-hungry Home Minister, Pradhan (Govind Namdeo).Pradhan suggests to Ayushman that to get promoted, he should get Ankita married to his son Vishal (Aakash Dabhade). Ayushman agrees and decides that Ankita will marry him whether she wants to or not. When Vishal harasses Ankita, Shiv beats him up mercilessly. Ankit also falls in love with Shiv. Thus, after finding out she is in love with Shiv, he has Shiv arrested and convicted for crimes he hasn't even committed (Damaging public property, attacking Vishal, wearing a police uniform without permission, and hitting a police constable). Zorawar is also suspended from duty.

Satyakant then tries to bail Shiv out and calmly explains to Ayushman, but instead is humiliated and thrown out of his police station. Ayushman promises that he will make Shiv's life worse than death in his lock-up.Without any other choice, Satyakant decides to turn to his other son, to enter and finish off Ayushman. On the other hand, it is revealed that after being disowned, Surya had saved the life of a transport businessman Tauji aka Big Boss (Danny Denzongpa) who had helped him out and taken him in and raised him like a son till 15 years. Now, Surya (Akshay Kumar) has transformed himself into Boss, a suave, tough transport businessman who fights for trucker's rights and strives to get them justice. Trilok (Sanjay Mishra) is Surya's sidekick.

Pradhan is concerned that Ayushman's atrocities on Shiv are reflecting badly on his political career as Ayushman was filmed by media dragging Shiv outside his house. Ayushman suggests to kill & bury Shiv, but Pradhan is adamant that someone from outside will kill Shiv. Pradhan gives Shiv's death contract to Tauji, who in turn gives it to Boss. The same day Satyakant approaches boss & gives him money to save his son Shiv. Boss realizes that the 2 contracts are for the same person & that Ayushman is the pig here who has falsely implicated Shiv & now wants to eliminate him.

Boss meets Ayushman & convinces him to drop all charges against Shiv so that Boss can kill Shiv without any connections to Ayushman. When Shiv is released, Boss goes & help him escape & also reveals to Shiv that he is his brother. Ayushman suspects foul play & calls Tauji & Boss to a meeting with Pradhan.Pradhan cancels the contract given to Tauji & Boss announces a new contract to get Shiv married to Ankita. He also reveals that Shiv is his real brother.

In retaliation Pradhan hires another goon to kill Shiv, but Boss intervenes & kills them all. To shut Pradhan, he exposes Pradhan's 25 MLAs having sex with prostitutes. Those 25 MLAs are suspended & Pradhan's power base is destroyed.

Ayushman arrests Shiv on trumped up sexual assault charges by trapping him through his mistress Dimple (Hunar Hali). Satyakant admonishes Boss for his negative influence that led to this new tragedy. This time Tauji interjects & tells Satyakant that 15 years ago it was not Surya who killed the boy at school. The boy was killed accidentally when Satyakant threw him & Surya into the storeroom, but Surya took the blame on himself so that Satyakant would not be punished.

Boss kidnaps Pradhan's son Vishal to get Shiv released from police custody & Boss openly mocks Ayushman. Ayushman retaliates by crushing Satyakant's SUV with a truck.Satyakant barely survives & is in ICU. This leads to an open fight between boss & Ayushman in Kurukshetra. Boss defeats Ayushman but is stopped by Satyakant before Boss can kill him.
