Summaries

Ljekaruse [Herbalists], the ancient folk-healing books found in all four ethnic groups in Bosnia-Herzegovina, have always contained elements of religion, magic, mysticism, and demonism. The illnesses for which people have been treated for centuries have always been a reflection of conditions in the society. Ljekaruse have been handed down from generation to generation as part of the Christian, Islamic, and Jewish traditions. The film takes a look at present-day postwar Bosnia-Herzegovina and the illnesses currently afflicting the community. Lost, deceived, hopeless, forcibly expelled from their homes, people without exception and regardless of ethnicity feel uprooted and depressed.—Anonymous
