Former captain in the U. S. Army, Bob Hampton wrongfully convicted and having served a prison sentence for the killing of Major Brant, becomes notorious as a gambler and gunfighter throughout the West in 1876. Joining a party of settlers, Hampton saves the life of a girl known as "The Kid" from an Indian siege. Lieutenant Brant, son of the major, falls in love with her, and Hampton later discovers that she is his lost daughter. Finding the real murderer, Hampton forces him to confess, then continues his journey and joins Custer's last stand with Dick, a befriended waif, and they go to their death in each other's arms. His daughter learns that her father's name has been cleared, and she marries Lieutenant Brant.—Pamela Short
