Breaking a cardinal rule of the bunian (a supernatural race from different dimension), Black inhabits the body of deceased officer Khairul Malik and assumes his identity in order to facilitate his investigation. Despite detesting humans for their "primitive ways", Black becomes entangled with Sofia, whose ability to foresee death is key to his mission.
