In a large auditorium, the German National Opera is about to perform. During their rehearsals, a group of armed individuals take control of the place and start shooting recklessly. They terrorize these innocent people and send a message across to get a huge ransom of three hundred million. Special forcer operative Matteo Donner (Rico Verhoeven) arrives with his close friend and team leader, John (Roland Møller). The criminals refuse to cooperate and shoot a hostage. So, Matteo decides to disregard his official orders and fights back.
Matteo ends up saving the lives of the hostages. But it comes at the cost of John's death. So, he partially regrets this decision. Because of this tragedy, he decides to change his life. About five years later, we see him in Calarasi, Romania, working at a sawmill. Because of his guilt, he decides to distance himself from the things he held dear. But eventually, he decides to return to where he came from. He hopes to fulfill his responsibilities to John's widow, Helene (Marie Dompnier), and their daughter, Angie (Pippi Casey), after his death. Matteo is Angie's godfather.
In Amsterdam, Shira (Rona-Lee Shimon), Fischer (Kevin Janssens), and their INTERPOL team members manage to intercept a drug shipment. It comes under the territory of Gabriel Saban (Frank Grillo), a powerful mob boss who is behind those illegal operations. While the INTERPOL officers try to finish the next task on their list, Matteo reaches Amsterdam to meet Helene and Angie. He does this for the first time since John's death despite his promise to John that he will take care of them after his passing. Because of his overbearing guilt, he didn't even show up at John's funeral.
By then, Helene had married Paul (Peter Franzén) and started a life with him. Although she is upset at Matteo for his absence, she decides to accept him as a friend with open arms. She offers him a place to stay at their house. While Matteo tries to be comfortable in his new surroundings, Saban plans to wage a war against those who are trying to stop his cash flow. He assigns Lo (Simon Wan) and Ber (Magnus Samuelsson) to find the person who exposed their information. Meanwhile, Matteo suffers from PTSD from his time in Afghanistan.
Saban is somehow in business with Helene's new partner, Paul. He learns about some operational complications and tells Paul to find solutions for them. As time passes, Saban gets increasingly impatient. As a result of his anger, Roman (Edon Rizvanolli), connected to INTERPOL, gets killed. Shira and Fischer see it as a message from the crime lord. Meanwhile, Saban keeps putting more pressure on Paul to find his lost money.
Helene helps Matteo to get used to his new routine. While being out with him and Angie, Angie gets kidnapped by some masked individuals working for Saban. He does this as an act of revenge. Matteo follows them and gets heavily injured. In the hospital, Shira and Fischer show up with their investigation. They question Matteo's elusive background and his connection to the crimes. Paul keeps mum about his connection to Saban. Shira wonders how Matteo is connected to Saban's gang.
Matteo starts looking for clues to find Angie. Paul ends up saying something only an inside person would. So, Matteo makes him reveal his connection to Saban. Hearing that, Helene gets justifiably furious at Paul. Paul says they can't wage war against those like Saban due to the danger they pose. Anyhow, Matteo makes Paul speak with Saban and cut a deal to save Angie. Saban asks him to come with a significant amount of money to a construction site in Westport. Otherwise, he threatens to harm her or send her to another country.
Helene tells Matteo to bring Angie home. Shira intercepts a call between Saban & Paul and learns about their deal. Eventually, at the construction site in Westport, Matteo arrives with the money. Saban's men push his buttons by saying they didn't bring Angie. They take the bag of money from Matteo only to realize it has a bomb. It lights their car on fire and kills them. Matteo kidnaps one of Saban's men and asks him about Angie's location. The man reveals that she is at the Reinaert red light district.
At Helene's house, Fischer shows up to speak with Paul. Fischer sees Lo holding Helene at a knife's point. They get into a fight where Lo stabs Fischer to death. Paul leaves the house with money. Once he gets in his car, Lo threatens to kill him. Paul tells about the money, and Lo leaves with that bag. He goes to a club and offers it to Saban. Meanwhile, Matteo shows up there to save Angie, followed by Shira. They both get into an intense fight with Saban's pawns.
Eventually, they win over Saban's violent men. But Saban takes Angie out with him. Matteo gets out of the club and manages to kill Saban. So, in the end, Matteo manages to save Angie. He brings her back to Helene. By doing so, he stays true to his Black Lotus arm tattoo that serves as a reminder to find balance in his life - between the sensitive and reckless side of him. On the other hand, hospitalized Fischer receives a medal for his service. (thanks to highonfilms)
