Bhakta Prahlada is the first full length Telugu talkie film based on the story of Narasimha and Prahlada in Hindu mythology.

The demon king, Hiranyakashipu, gets a boon that he can't be killed by a human, animal or God, he can't be killed during day or night, and he can't be killed inside or outside his home. The son of demon king Hiranyakashipu, Prahlada, is a staunch devotee of Lord Vishnu. As Gods are considered enemies to demons and Vishnu being the most hated God, Hiranyakashipu tries to educate his son to change his perspective but Prahlada comes up with a more mature argument against his father and teachers. Finally, Hiranyakashipu decides to kill his son but Lord Vishnu appears in the form of half-human and half-lion, and kills him at the entrance of his house at the time of sunset putting an end to the rule of the demons over Earth.

The first sound film in Telugu is a classic mythological drawn from the Vishnu Purana. Prahlada, the son of the demon Hiranyakashapu (Subbaiah), defies his father and worships Vishnu. He is imprisoned but Vishnu protects him.—Sujit R. Varma
