His girlfriend is the rich and sexy Myra Sehgal (Sonam Kapoor). Mohit is promoted from Junior Executive in Marketing to Senior Executive. He buys a new car (on EMI based on his increased salary from the promotion) & sports a gold credit card (with a credit limit of Rs 3 Lakhs), but Myra is still slightly ahead of him in the corporate success sweepstakes. Myra has a Platinum Credit Card with a limit of Rs 4 Lakhs.

Mohit proposes to Myra and she accepts, but is unable to break the news to her dad V. K. Sehgal (Rishi Kapoor) who is a Govt bureaucrat & in a foul mood due to his transfer to the department of animal husbandry, just 1 month before his retirement. Gursharan (Gurpal Singh) is VK's Personal Assistant. VK wanted to resign from his post, but Gursharan advises VK to continue his job till retirement for the sake of his pension.

VK dislikes Mohit, and Myra tries very hard to bring VK and Mohit together by organizing picnics and inviting Mohit to it. However, VK ends up mistreating Mohit, and he only puts up with the insults to avoid creating a ruckus with VK. As Mohit could not gather the courage to ask VK, Myra tells VK that Mohit wants to marry her. VK is livid and walks away. To avoid creating a scene in public, Myra goes with VK.

VK was an honest IAS officer all his life & raised Myra on his own after the death of wife. He was always regretful that he could not provide material happiness to Myra during his career and hence wants a rich husband for her. V.K. Sehgal does not approve of their wedding, as he believes Mohit would not be able to provide for her and give her happiness. VK wants Myra to marry someone with a net worth of at least Rs 25 Crores.

But when Myra insists, V.K. goes to Mohit's office to meet him. Mohit earns Rs 65,000 PM, while Myra brings in Rs 72,000 PM.VK says that if Mohit passes the probation period, then he can marry Myra. He calls Mohit to the club every day to play squash. V.K. soon retires from his Office.

Myra gets an offer for a plum job in Dubai (which she refuses as she wants to marry Mohit), while Mohit's airline company fires 1200 employees, most of them in the Marketing function. VK watches the news on TV and wants to break off the wedding since Mohit has lost his job. Myra lies to VK by telling him that Mohit's job is safe. V.K. shows Mohit his criminal inquiries and Mohit gives V.K. an idea of working after his retirement, which V.K. likes very much.

Mohit and Myra work hard to find a new job for Mohit but are not successful. Mohit goes bankrupt & must borrow money from Myra to pay off his credit card bills, car EMI and to keep up the charade in front of VK. Mohit receives calls from everywhere to return money; he calls Myra, and she gives him Rs 50,000.

Mohit starts getting desperate for a job & the lack of money starts creating tension between Mohit and Myra. Meanwhile VK buys a laptop, creates a resume & sends out job applications. He gets hooked to video games as well.

Money troubles between Mohit and Myra lead to more intense arguments when Myra is unable to support her lavish lifestyle to support Mohit's existence. Mohit asks Myra for money for his apartment. She does not have it, and they have a fight.Mohit sells his car to settle the dues with Myra. She is hurt & calls off the wedding & breaks up with Mohit.

The same day VK gets a job offer & is very impressed with Mohit. He goes and buys engagement rings for Mohit & Myra & invites them both to dinner. At dinner the fact comes out in front of VK that Mohit is unemployed. VK is angry that Mohit lied to him & kicks him out of his house. Mohit leaves his apartment, rents a smaller place.Myra accepts a transfer to Dubai. Mohit gets a job as a manager in a coffee shop. Both Myra and Mohit are distraught and miss each other.

Then VK realizes that Mohit is a man of character because Mohit kept on helping VK find a job even when things were shaky with Myra. Mohit never once let his issues with Myra come in between his commitment to VK to help him find a job.

Myra comes back to India to get VK to accompany her to Dubai. VK arranges for his & Myra's visa to Dubai to be canceled.

VK goes to Mohit's old office and asks Imi where he is. Imi takes him to the car garage manager, who takes them to the cafe. V.K. visits the cafe and orders food cheaply. V.K. tells Mohit that Myra is going to Dubai. Back at home, their maid, Radha starts crying. Mohit goes to their house and screams out for Myra; V.K. lectures him, and Mohit tells V.K. that he is being uncool.

Myra tells her dad that it is enough, and Mohit is a National Level under 16-silver medalist in squash but still kept losing to V.K. She tells him that she does not have fun shopping without him because there is nobody to say, "Very Hot, Khaa Jau Tere Ko". Myra and Mohit realize that they both love each other and that this was a ploy by VK to reignite the passion between the two.

V.K. prepares for the interview in a suit with four pockets, then changes clothes, and goes to Mohit's apartment to get a tie. The couple go to the coffee shop, where V.K. comes back as the COO of the company.
