Betty Pumpkin is a kind but odd woman, living in a small village. When a vicious tramp tries to scare her away by convincing the villagers she's a witch, she will get even with him like never before.

The young Luna is ignored by her parents Weinand and Petronella and she often seeks coziness at the home of Betty Pumpkin, a lonely (although she has a talking oven) chubby woman who cheers Luna up with magic and music or takes her to the dreamland of Tasie. When a gang of notorious tramps, led by the wicked Revot La Vot and his accomplice Thinges, discover the magical powers, they put everyone up against her, eventually resulting in Betty Pumpkin fleeing her home, leaving her best friends Coby Bean, Candy Sweet and Luna behind. Desperately trying to restore the relation with her parents, Luna gets even more neglected. But then Betty Pumpkin returns. Filled with determination to eliminate her forever, Weinand and Petronella conclude a pact with Revot La Vot and Thinges. Who will have the last laugh?—Arjen Rooseboom
